Phase 4 gives the "final touch" of the VIP Instructor program. The Phase 4 activities are best defined as an "apprenticeship period". Phase 4 is not a required part of the VIP Instructor program. The experiences we provide you with are the same as you would get in your very first job as a diving professional.
In Phase 4 you are considered part of the staff of the Instructor Training College. Of course this can involve teaching a course or guiding recreational divers, but on another day it might just as well be sorting out student files, filling cylinders or repairing equipment. You are basically going to take part in the day-to-day work of the dive center staff in all its aspects.
Phase 4 is not required for all.
For which candidates is this option intended?
- First of all, for those who want to be prepared before taking up their first job.
- For those who start their VIP Instructor program with Phase 1. We will want you to have at least 6 months experience in diving before having you out in the field as a diving instructor. For non-divers doing the complete VIP program (Phase 1, 2, 3 & 4), Phase 4 will take 2 months, totaling the training to a 6 month VIP Instructor course.
- For people doing the VIP course as a company or government financed retraining program. The financing entity (especially if it is the army paying for a training program to return to civil life after completion of an army contract) sometimes requires the person to have an apprenticeship period included in the course.
In Phase 4 you are always guided by an experienced member of the staff of the Instructor Training College. You will get a briefing before you start your activities and once the assigned task is finished, there will be a debriefing and counseling with respect to your performance and you'll have the chance to ask questions. The staff member will keep an eye on you (discretely) during the activity to be able to give you the needed feedback, but will not interfere in your activities (unless there is an urgent need to do so).
There is no fixed schedule for Phase 4. Phase 4 is a very individual program and needs to be matched to your wishes and requirements. You can contact us any time to discuss possible scheduling.
