Phase 3 - Module 2

For many divers, the reason why they dive is because they like to observe the underwater environment. You can expect many questions on the names and behavior of creatures divers have seen during their dives with you. The more you know and can tell, the more the clients are satisfied with the services of your dive center.

The first day of the course is dedicated to the protection of the marine environment. We will take a close look at the AWARE foundation and its programs and will make you aware of techniques you can implement in the local diving environment to do your part in the protection of the marine environment.

The second day is dedicated to fish identification. We will expand your knowledge of names and behavior of different species and teach you the techniques to find the ones you do not know in the appropriate books. For this part of the course the IT College has expanded its web pages with a "translator" for fish names, as you will not know what the preferred language of your future clients will be. On day 3 we will visit the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco . This will give you a chance to see different species not found in the Mediterranean and to inform yourself on the history of marine science.

Day 4 and 5 are a mix between research and naturalist. We will take an in-depth look at the (Latin) system for naming creatures and the specifics of the various groups of organisms. During dives we are going to look for certain species and observe their behavior. In discussions after the dives we will then come up with certain assumptions (thesis) and set up small research objectives to confirm these assumptions (or prove them wrong) in later dives.

At the end of this module you will be certified as PADI Specialty Instructor for Environmental Protection, Fish Identification, Research and Naturalist.
